The Kummer Institute Foundation Board of Directors at Missouri S&T recently welcomed a new member to its team: Susan Simmons, retired senior resident engineer at Anheuser-Busch in St. Louis.
Simmons earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Missouri S&T in 1984. She earned a master’s degree in business administration from Washington University in St. Louis in 1995. S&T honored her with a Professional Degree in Chemical Engineering in 2015.
“I am delighted that Sue has joined the Kummer Board of Directors,” says Dr. Richard Brow, executive director of operations for the Kummer Institute. “I have worked closely with Sue for a number of years on a variety of activities related to her service on the Missouri S&T Board of Trustees, and I know that we will certainly benefit from her engineering sensibilities, management experience, and passion for S&T.”
Simmons retired from Anheuser-Busch in 2016. She joined Anheuser-Busch in 1986 as a project engineer in a centralized organization with a responsibility for large capital project execution. Simmons spent the next 16 years working in roles of increasing responsibility and leadership with multidisciplinary teams modernizing, expanding and operating Anheuser-Busch breweries across the United States and in Japan and England. She transitioned to the senior leadership team for the St. Louis brewery in 2002. Simmons was responsible for capital planning and execution for the facility, maintenance strategies across the plant, information technology and leadership of the brewery power plant and support utilities operations.
At Missouri S&T, Simmons is a member of the Academy of Chemical and Biochemical Engineers and served for many years on the department’s Industrial Advisory Council. She also served on the Career Opportunities and Employer Relations Advisory Council and on the Corporate Development Council. She spoke as a guest lecturer for the Chancellor’s Leadership Academy and more recently, as a commencement speaker. Simmons has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2016, and is a past president of the board. Simmons was inducted into the Women’s Hall of Fame in 2005.
The Kummer Institute Foundation Board is responsible for fiduciary management of a $300 million gift from Fred and June Kummer to Missouri S&T in 2020. Members oversee investments of funds from the gift and establish budgetary guidelines and policy. They serve four-year terms with the possibility of one renewal.
