Some Missouri S&T students will start their St. Pat’s break helping members of the Rolla community through the Gonzo Gives Back Day of Service. Approximately 70 student and staff volunteers are expected to take part, working on service projects throughout the community.
The volunteer groups begin work at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 14. Projects include packing boxes of food and hygiene products at the Phelps County Dream Center, spreading mulch and placing landscaping stones at Veteran’s Memorial Park, and working on trail construction and planting native shrubs and wildflowers at the Audubon Trails Nature Center.
This year, Missouri S&T’s community partners are Greentree Learning Center, Kaleidoscope Discovery Center, Phelps County Dream Center, Ozark Actors Theatre, Ozark Rivers Audubon and South Central Regional Veterans Group.
Gonzo Gives Back Day of Service is sponsored by the Missouri S&T student involvement department and the St. Pat’s Board. The event is named for the traditional St. Pat’s ‘Gonzo and Games’ event that takes place later that day at Schumann Park, in which S&T students compete in a variety of sports and games.
Gonzo Gives Back is a part of the two-week-long St. Pat’s celebration at Missouri S&T. The events will culminate with the St. Pat’s Parade on Pine Street in downtown Rolla at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16. For more information about all St. Pat’s events, visit stpats.mst.edu.
