“Hairspray” will be at Leach Theatre on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024.

NOTE: This performance has been canceled. Leach Theatre will follow up about ticket refunds within 48 hours.

Tickets are still available for “Hairspray” at Leach Theatre. The national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical will land at Missouri S&T this February as part of the Campus Performing Arts Series.

The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 21, in Leach Theatre in Castleman Hall, located on the Missouri S&T campus at the corner of 10th and Main streets in Rolla. Tickets are $60 for adults, $55 for youth under age 18, and $35 for Missouri S&T students. This event is sponsored by Phelps Health and the Phelps County Focus.

Set in 1960s Baltimore, the musical follows 16-year-old Tracy Turnblad, a girl with big dreams (and even bigger hair). After dancing her way onto her favorite TV show, she joins protests to integrate the TV station, finding new friends and inspiring others along the way.

The musical adaptation of John Waters’ 1988 film “Hairspray” opened on Broadway in 2002 and won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Featuring well-known songs including “Good Morning Baltimore” and “You Can’t Stop the Beat,” the New York Times called the show “fresh, winning, and deliriously tuneful.” The 2007 film adaptation starred Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad, Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle and John Travolta as Tracy’s mother, Edna.

Tickets can be purchased online at leachtheatre.mst.edu or by calling 573-341-4219. Service fees may apply to tickets purchased online or by phone. Tickets can also be purchased in person in the student involvement office in Room 218 of the Havener Center, located on the Missouri S&T campus at 1246 N. Bishop Avenue.
