Dr. John (Chris) Ketcherside, assistant teaching professor of history and political science, is originally from Ballwin, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. He graduated from Truman State in 1994 and received a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. He served on active duty for 18 years, and had the privilege of traveling to Japan, Thailand, Turkey, Italy, Kuwait, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. He also made it to Germany and France on his own. While on active duty, Ketcherside obtained his master’s degree in military history from the American Military University.
Retiring in 2013, Ketcherside started teaching at St. Louis Community College. While working on a Ph.D. at Saint Louis University, he also taught as an adjunct at Maryville University, Lindenwood University and Missouri S&T. His Ph.D. is in American history, with a focus on World War II and the civil rights movement. He is currently an assistant teaching professor at S&T, where he enjoys working with the students who he finds to be particularly interesting and intellectually engaged. Ketcherside is married to Kara Krueger of St. Louis, who is a Missouri S&T graduate of 1994. They have a 17-year-old son, Alex.
Ketcherside has taught American history to 1877, American history from 1877, American military history, history of the American Civil War, and the United States in World War II. He is currently developing a class on the modern civil rights movement.
