Dr. Keng Siau, chair and professor of business and information technology at Missouri S&T, has received three awards from the Association for Information Systems (AIS) in recognition of his contributions to the field of information systems. Across nearly 100 countries, the more than 4,800-member AIS serves society through the advancement of knowledge and promotion of excellence in the practice and study of information systems worldwide.
“In Missouri S&T’s STEM-focused environment, our programs emphasize management through technology, with a primary educational emphasis on applying advanced information technology to enhance business competitiveness,” says Siau. “My 25-plus years of participation in AIS has been an invaluable resource for my teaching, research and leadership development. The knowledge I’ve gained from the AIS conferences and journals has helped me become a better teacher and advance student success.”

Siau was ranked as one of the top 60 management information systems researchers in the world in a 2019 study by the University of Arizona, based on the productivity and impact of his published work. He has written over 300 academic publications and, according to Google Scholar, has over 12,000 citation counts. He is also editor-in-chief of the Journal of Database Management and served as North America regional editor for Requirements Engineering journal from 2010 to 2016. He served as the AIS vice president of education from 2011 to 2014.
“Dr. Siau’s research is changing the field of information systems,” says Dr. Kate Drowne, interim vice provost and dean of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Business and professor of English and technical communication. “His peers recognize him as one of the world’s top IS researchers, and his expertise is frequently sought by industry leaders, editorial boards and colleagues across the globe. He has also demonstrated sustained leadership in innovative education strategies and in serving his discipline through his professional associations. Missouri S&T’s business and information technology department has flourished under his leadership, and we are fortunate to have him as a colleague.”
Siau holds a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of British Columbia and master and bachelor of science degrees in computer and information sciences from the National University of Singapore. He joined Missouri S&T in 2012 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he was an endowed chair professor of management.
