Missouri S&T will host a Blasters Training Seminar Jan. 8-10, 2020 at its Experimental Mine. Missouri S&T’s Experimental Mine location will provide access to activities and demonstrations in underground workings and small-scale quarries, including magazine facilities.

The course is of special interest to Missouri licensed blasters who need to renew their licenses in 2020. The training is required before a Missouri blasters’ license can be renewed and is good for up to one year. The renewal process may be started six months before expiration.

The course director will be Dr. Paul Worsey, emeritus professor of mining engineering at Missouri S&T. Worsey has over 35 years of explosives and blasting experience and has been involved in blasting training for over 25 years. He has appeared on television networks such as TLC (the Learning Channel), the History Channel, the National Geographic Channel and the Discovery Channel. Worsey has also been featured in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the New York Times.

The semi-annual Blaster’s Training Seminar is a 20-hour course that provides participants with basic training for blasting in the crushed stone and construction industries. Individuals concerned with other aspects of blasting, such as those used by underground mines and utility companies, will also benefit from the training. The course acquaints attendees with federal and state purchase, transportation and storage regulations.

Experienced blasters and engineers may use the course as a refresher and an update on new products, blasting techniques and regulations, as well as enhancement of their blasting knowledge and skills.
