Nine people with ties to Missouri University of Science and Technology will be honored during the Miner Alumni Association’s Legends Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 27. The awards banquet is held in conjunction with Missouri S&T Homecoming festivities.

The event will be held noon-1:30 p.m. in the Kinyon-Koeppel Grand Hall of Hasselmann Alumni House, located at 1100 N. Pine St. in Rolla. The luncheon is open to the public and tickets are $20. Award recipients include:

— John Bade of St. Louis, will receive the Alumni Achievement Award. Bade, vice president of Boeing Saudi Arabia Defense, Space and Security at The Boeing Co., earned bachelor of science, master of science and Ph.D. degrees in engineering management from Missouri S&T in 1985, 1987 and 1998, respectively.

— James Bertelsmeyer of Tulsa, Oklahoma, will receive the Robert V. Wolf Alumni Service Award. Bertelsmeyer, retired founder and CEO of Heritage Propane Partners, L.P., now Energy Transfer Partners, earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Missouri S&T in 1966.

— John Borthwick of Clinton, Missouri, will receive the Frank H. Mackaman Alumni Volunteer Service Award. Borthwick, a principal engineer at HydroGeologic, earned a bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering from Missouri S&T in 1986.

— Christopher Buterbaugh of Houston, will receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award. Buterbaugh, asset integrity and reliability supervisor at Chevron Corp., earned a bachelor of science degree in metallurgical engineering from Missouri S&T in 2007.

— Fiorella Giana of Phoenix, will receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award. Giana, haulage manager at Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A., earned a bachelor of science degree in mining engineering from Missouri S&T in 2005.

— Robert Lankston of Hernando, Mississippi, will receive the Alumni Achievement Award. Lankston, director of aircraft engineering at FedEx Corp., earned a bachelor of science degree in aerospace engineering from Missouri S&T in 1985.

— Robert Pahl of North Richland Hills, Texas, will receive the Alumni Merit Award. Pahl, retired fuels and technical support manager at ConocoPhillips, earned bachelor of science, master of science and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from Missouri S&T in 1968, 1970 and 1974, respectively.

— Dr. David Richardson of Rolla, Missouri, will receive the Alumni Merit Award. Richardson, Chancellor’s Professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at Missouri S&T, earned bachelor of science, master of science and Ph.D. degrees in civil engineering from S&T in 1971, 1973 and 1984, respectively.

— Max Tohline of Rolla, Missouri, will receive the Class of ’42 Excellence in Teaching Award. Tohline, assistant professor of arts, languages and philosophy at Missouri S&T, earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from Missouri S&T in 2007.
