S&T faculty honored for outstanding teaching in distance education

Missouri University of Science and Technology presented outstanding teaching awards to Missouri S&T faculty engaged in distance education during an awards dinner on March 8, 2017. Faculty were recognized for their outstanding teaching, which is reflected in the quality of instruction, interaction with students and availability. 

“Each of these faculty members have a strong commitment to the success of our distance programs, demonstrating their commitment to education, professional achievement and the growth of our students,” says Dr. Anthony R. Petroy, assistant vice chancellor for Global Learning at Missouri S&T. “These awards honor their hard work and dedication to teaching.”

Outstanding Professor Award of Excellence
Excellence Awards are given to those professors who scored 4.0 out of 4.0 and had 70 percent or more of their students participate in the teacher evaluation survey. 2016 Excellence Award recipients are:

  • Dr. Neil Anderson, professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering
  • Dr. Mehdi Ferdowsi, professor of electrical and computer engineering
  • Dr. Bih-Ru Lea, associate professor of business and information technology
  • Dr. J. David Rogers, the Karl F. Hasselmann Missouri Chair in Geological Engineering

Outstanding Professor Commendation Award
Commendation Awards are given to those professors who scored between 3.71 and 3.99 out of 4.0 and had 70 percent or more of their students participate in the teacher evaluation survey. 2016 Commendation Award recipients are:

  • Dr. Mao Chen Ge, associate professor of mining and nuclear engineering
  • Dr. Sarah Stanley, assistant professor of business and information technology
