Due to an air conditioning unit catching fire on the roof of Emerson Hall at Missouri University of Science and Technology, university officials enacted the campus emergency mass notification system to evacuate faculty, staff and students from the building today (Thursday, Dec. 8). The fire has now been contained by Rolla Fire and Rescue. No injuries have been reported.
At approximately 12:55 p.m., a mass notification message warned people that a fire was being combated by local emergency personnel.
At approximately 1:15 p.m., the following buildings surrounding Emerson Hall had power shut off as a precaution:
- Stramanis-James Hall
- Fulton Hall
- Butler-Carlton Civil Engineering Hall
- Physics Building
- Nuclear Reactor
- Interdisciplinary Building
- Parker Hall
- Norwood Hall
