The local community can learn to dance the Balboa, St. Louis Shag and Blues from a professional instructor at Missouri University of Science and Technology on Sunday, Nov. 13. The lessons are free and open to the public.
The dance lessons will be hosted by the Missouri S&T Aerial Swing Dance Club in hour-long segments beginning at 1 p.m. and lasting until 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, in the basement of Residential Commons 2, located near the corner of University Drive and North Bishop Avenue, directly west of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Rolla. From the Residential Commons 2 parking lot, visitors can go down stairs and doors are on the right.
There is no registration required and anyone can join the classes. Attendees can stay for as many or few classes as they wish. There are no clothing requirements, though attendees may want to wear comfortable exercise clothing and gym class-suitable shoes.
Classes will be held as follows:
— 1-2 p.m. Balboa
— 2:30-3:30 p.m. St. Louis Shag
— 4-5 p.m. Blues
— 7-8 p.m. Elective on how to dance, connection and other fundamentals
Canada Pennett, an area dance instructor and DJ, will serve as instructor for the classes. Following the classes, the club will hold its regular practice with social dancing and dance lifts instruction.
The Missouri S&T Aerial Swing Dance Club is a registered student organization that offers free step and aerial swing dance lessons to the campus and community. No previous experience is required for anyone to join the group, which meets twice a week and performs for the public at least once a semester.
