Celebrate Rolla founder Edmund Ward Bishop’s 196th birthday at the Rolla Town Band’s third performance of the season.
The concert, a mix of classical pieces and marches, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, on the front lawn of the Phelps County Courthouse, located at 200 N. Main St. in Rolla. The concert is free and open to the public.
“The concert will honor local history by being performed at the old Rolla Courthouse and will celebrate Bishop’s birthday,” says David Cress, assistant teaching professor of arts, languages, and philosophy at Missouri University of Science and Technology, and conductor of the Rolla Town Band. “The concert will also feature the world premiere of ‘Holy Father’ by Rolla resident and University of Missouri-Kansas City student Carl Schumacher. The piece was written specifically for the Rolla Town Band.”
The Rolla Town Band will perform its last free concert of the summer at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Castleman Green, located at the corner of 10th and State streets, on the campus of Missouri S&T.
