Dr. Anthony R. Petroy, assistant vice president for online and off-campus programs at Robert Morris University, has been named assistant vice chancellor for global learning at Missouri University of Science and Technology. His appointment begins Monday, July 13.
As Missouri S&T’s assistant vice chancellor for global learning, Petroy will work with Missouri S&T’s academic units and university administration to develop a comprehensive strategy for online and distance programs, pursue opportunities to expand their reach, and anticipate coming trends.
The position, which is housed in the Division of Global and Strategic Partnerships at Missouri S&T, was established as part of Missouri S&T’s strategic plan priorities to expand efforts in global and online learning and to create a combined distance and online course delivery strategy.
“Dr. Petroy has proven success launching and directing several successful online education programs, as well as more than a decade of experience in higher education administration,” says Dr. Warren K. Wray, vice chancellor for global and strategic partnerships at Missouri S&T. “This experience, combined with over 20 years of faculty experience in traditional, hybrid, online and distance teaching methods, make him an excellent choice for this position.”
Petroy joined the faculty at Robert Morris University as an adjunct faculty member in 1992. In 2010, he was named assistant vice president of online and off-campus programs. Also in 2010, he became an assistant professor of organizational leadership and was named head of that program in 2012.
Prior to joining Robert Morris, Petroy spent three years at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where he served as campus president, dean of academic affairs and online programs, program chair, and faculty mentor.
During 2006-07, Petroy served as director of academic programs, Argosy University online programs, for Education Management Corp. He served five years as corporate controller for Vocollect Inc., and eight years as financial officer and senior vice president of operations for LeaseTek, all in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Before joining LeaseTek, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Europe and the United States for four years.
Petroy’s research interests include ethical leadership and positive psychology in leadership that explores how to focus on the positive aspects of leadership. He authored several publications, including a trademarked lecture series titled “Inspiration Through Knowledge” and has given numerous presentations. During his career, he has taught 50 different courses and developed 20 new courses.
Petroy earned a doctor of management degree in organizational leadership from the University of Phoenix in 2005. He earned a master of science degree in management from Troy State University’s European Division in London, a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the Pennsylvania State University and an associate of applied science degree in information systems from the Community College of the Air Force.
He is a member of the Notary Public Association of Pennsylvania, the National Association of Accountants, Americanizational Mutual Society, the American Legion and the U.S. Air Force Veterans. In 2009, he was awarded the Continuing Education Excellence in Teaching Award from Penn State.
