The University and Community Symphony Orchestra and the Missouri S&T Chamber Orchestra will perform in a holiday concert on the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus this December.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. Dr. Robert Cesario, assistant professor of arts, languages and philosophy, will conduct the orchestras.
Tickets are $5 for the general public and free for Missouri S&T students, faculty and staff who present a valid ID and youth age 18 or younger. Tickets can be purchased 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday in the Leach Theatre Box Office, located in the vestibule of the main entrance of Castleman Hall, facing 10th Street, or by calling 573-341-4219.
The Chamber Orchestra will open the concert with “Suite from ‘The Nutcracker’” by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, “Hanukkah Joys” by Gary Fletcher, “Concertino for Strings” by John Cacavas and “Ukranian Bell Carol” by John Caponegro.
Following an intermission, the Symphony Orchestra will take the stage with “Sleigh Ride” by Frederic Delius, “Summer Dances” by Brian Balmages and “Symphony No. 1 in C Major, Opus 21” by Ludwig van Beethoven. They will round out the performance with “Jingle Bells Forever” by Robert W. Smith.
“This program represents a wide range of literature for both the Chamber Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra ranging from Beethoven’s ‘Symphony No. 1,’ completed in 1800, to the light-hearted and contemporary ‘Jingle Bells Forever,’” Cesario says.
