Missouri University of Science and Technology’s India Association, an Indian student organization, will host a celebration of Diwali this November. Diwali, one of India’s most vibrant festivals, is popularly known as the festival of lights and represents the triumph of good over evil. The word Diwali is derived from the Sanskrit word “Deepavali” meaning row of lamps.

The celebration will be held on Sunday, Nov. 2, and will include a cultural show and an authentic dinner.

The cultural show will be held from 4-6 p.m. in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets, and will feature authentic Indian dances, plays and a fashion show.

The dinner will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center on the S&T campus. Two appetizers, three vegetarian and two non-vegetarian entrees will be served as well as white rice, rolls and two desserts.

Tickets are $4 for the cultural show and $10 for the dinner and can be purchased from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day leading up to the event at the Havener Center, Curtis Laws Wilson Library or at the Leach Theatre Box Office, located in the vestibule of the main entrance to Leach Theatre, facing 10th Street.
