Missouri S&T to host a magical Homecoming celebration

Bertelsmeyer Hall, run a 5K and cheer on the Miner football team as part of Missouri University of Science and Technology’s 2014 Homecoming celebration Oct. 17-18. This year’s theme is The Wizardly World of Miners, based on the Harry Potter series.

The community is invited to attend the Bertelsmeyer Hall dedication, which will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, on the building’s front lawn, located at the corner of 11th and State streets. A fireworks finale will be held at 9 p.m.

The building is named in honor of Missouri S&T graduate James E. Bertelsmeyer of Tulsa, who donated $5 million toward the construction of the facility. Bertelsmeyer, the retired founder, chair and chief executive officer of Heritage Propane Partners in Tulsa, earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Missouri S&T in 1966.

Homecoming 2014 will include:

Friday, Oct. 17

Homecoming registration, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Havener Center atrium; 5-7 p.m. alumni tent on the Bertelsmeyer Hall lawn.

Alumni Association Miner Legends Luncheon, noon-1:30 p.m., St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. Some of S&T’s most distinguished alumni will receive recognition. Tickets are required.

Regional art collection and artist greetings, 1-3 p.m., Havener Center atrium’s second floor.

Department open houses, 3-4 p.m., various campus departments.

Bertelsmeyer Hall dedication, 4:30 p.m., Bertelsmeyer Hall front lawn, 11th and State streets. Guided tours of the new hall will be offered following the dedication ceremony.

Silver and Gold Gathering, 5-8 p.m., Bertelsmeyer Hall. Social Hour starts at 5 p.m., hors d’oeuvres will be served 6:30-8 p.m. and a fireworks display will end the evening at 9 p.m. Tickets are required.

Bertelsmeyer Hall donor recognition dinner, 7 p.m., St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. Tickets are required.

Home Free Vocal Band, 8 p.m., Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall. Tickets available at leachtheatre.mst.edu/tickets.

Saturday, Oct. 18

Miner 5K, 10 a.m., parking lot Q, north of the Gale Bullman Building. Registration starts at 9:15 a.m. Run, jog or walk through the S&T campus. Registration is required and can be done at miner5k.itsyourrace.com.

Homecoming parent meeting and reception, 10 a.m., St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center.

Kummer Student Design Center open house, 10 a.m., 1051 N. Bishop Ave. Meet the director and tour the facility.

Homecoming registration, 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., alumni tent, Gale Bullman Building parking lot.

Kick-off tailgate party and field turf dedication, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., alumni tent, Gale Bullman parking lot. Tickets are required.

Homecoming football game, 1 p.m., Allgood-Bailey Stadium. Cheer on the Miners as they take on William Jewell. Tickets are required.

Student Diversity/Minority Engineering Programs dinner, 5:30-10 p.m., St. Pat’s Ballroom of the Havener Center. Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Student Diversity/Minority Engineering Programs.
