Missouri University of Science and Technology received 18 awards for excellence in alumni relations, advancement services, communications and marketing, fundraising, media relations, photography and graphic design from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) during the CASE District VI conference held Jan. 12-14 in Kansas City, Mo.
S&T won six gold, five silver and seven bronze awards in the annual competition.
CASE received 575 entries for the annual awards program from colleges, universities and independent schools in Missouri, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. CASE is the international organization for educational advancement. Its membership is made up of college, university and independent school staff members in the areas of alumni relations, communications and marketing, and philanthropy.
The awards were as follows:
Six gold awards for:
- Advancement Services Programs, Donor Relations/Customer Service – for the Miner Nation Card. The card was developed by the communications office, the Miner Alumni Association and university advancement.
- Alumni Relations Programs, Regular Alumni Programs – for the Battle of the Brains scholarship banquet and trivia night. The event was hosted and staffed by the university advancement division. The communications staff created the collateral materials.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, College and University General Interest Magazines – for Missouri S&T Magazine. The communications department and the Miner Alumni Association collaborate to publish the alumni magazine three times a year.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Excellence in Design, Single-page Publications – for the 2013 Homecoming invitation, titled “Pow.” The piece was created by the communications staff in collaboration with the Miner Alumni Association.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Excellence in Design, Editorial Design – for the Missouri S&T Magazine feature story titled “The Next Generation of Miners” from the Spring 2013 issue of the magazine. The communications department and the Miner Alumni Association collaborate to publish the alumni magazine three times a year.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Specific Media Relations Programs – for the marketing plan to introduce Missouri S&T Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader to the various constituencies both on and off campus.
Five silver awards for:
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Excellence in Design, Covers – for the Registry of Donors and Volunteers. The piece was designed by the communications department in cooperation with the development and advancement services departments.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Excellence in Design, Posters – for a poster designed to encourage S&T students, faculty, staff and alumni to enter a campus Instagram photography contest. The poster was designed by the communications staff.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Individual Student Recruitment Publications, Posters – for the “Come for a Visit” poster. The communications department created the posted in collaboration with the enrollment management division.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Photography, Photographer of the Year – B.A. Rupert of the communications department
- Fundraising Programs, Collaborate Programs – for the Miners by Design piece, a new donor society supporting Missouri S&T’s Student Design Teams. The piece was created by the communications department in collaboration with university advancement.
Seven bronze awards for:
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Excellence in Design, Periodicals – for Missouri S&T Magazine. The communications department and the Miner Alumni Association collaborate to publish the alumni magazine three times a year.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Excellence in Design, Invitations – for the invitation to MinerFest, the 2013 Leadership Week Celebration. The piece was created by the communications department in collaboration with university advancement.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Individual Institutional Relations and Alumni Relations Publications – for re:search magazine, an annual publication highlighting Missouri S&T’s research efforts. The piece is produced by the communications office in collaboration with the office of sponsored programs.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Individual Public Relations and Community Relations Projects – for the Chancellor’s Holiday Card, which was produced by the communications department in collaboration with the chancellor’s office.
- Communications and Marketing Programs, Individual Student Recruitment Publications – for the International Viewbook. The piece was created by the communications department in collaboration with international affairs and enrollment management.
- Communications & Marketing Programs, Print Periodical Publishing Improvement, Magazine Publishing Improvement – for Missouri S&T Magazine, which was redesigned and changed from four annual issues to three. The communications department and the Miner Alumni Association collaborate to publish the alumni magazine.
- Communications & Marketing Programs, Web-Based or Electronic HTML Periodicals – for Missouri S&T’s Discover website (discover.mst.edu). The site, created and managed by the communications department, houses feature stories, photos and videos about Missouri S&T’s faculty, staff and students.
