Missouri University of Science and Technology will host its Annual Blasters Training Seminar March 12-14 at the St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles, Mo. The course fulfills the training requirement for the Missouri state blaster’s license.

The eight-hour option of the course is of special interest to Missouri licensed blasters who need to renew their licenses in 2012. The training is good for up to one year before renewal is needed, and the renewal process may be started six months before expiration.

The course director is Dr. Paul Worsey, professor of mining engineering at Missouri S&T. Worsey has more than 30 years of explosives and blasting experience and has been involved in blasting training for more than 20 years. He has been on television networks such as TLC (The Learning Channel), the History Channel, the National Geographic Channel and the Discovery Channel. He most recently co-hosted “The Detonators” series on the Discovery Channel. Worsey has also been featured in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The New York Times.

The Annual Blaster’s Training Seminar provides participants with basic training for blasting in the crushed stone and construction industries. Additionally, it is of use to individuals concerned with other aspects of blasting, such as those used by underground mines and utility companies. The course also acquaints participants with federal and state purchase, transportation and storage regulations.

Experienced blasters and engineers may use the course as both a refresher and an update on new products, blasting techniques and regulations, as well as to enhance their blasting knowledge and skills. The eight hours required for the refresher portion of the test may be taken on any of the seminar days. More information is available at blasters.mst.edu.
