S&T stands out in annual CASE competition

Missouri S&T received 11 awards for excellence in alumni relations, photography, fundraising, media relations, institutional relations and graphic design from the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) during the CASE District VI conference held Jan. 25-27 in Kansas City.


S&T won a gold, three silver and six bronze awards in the annual competition, as well as the district’s Sweepstakes Award for best overall institutional advancement program in its enrollment category of 5,000-7,499 students. This is the third year in a row the university has won the Sweepstakes Award.

CASE received nearly a thousand entries for the annual awards program from colleges, universities and independent schools in Missouri, Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. CASE is the international organization for educational advancement. Its membership is made up of college, university and independent school staff members in the areas of alumni relations, communications and marketing, and philanthropy.

The awards were as follows:

  • Gold award for Excellence in Alumni Special Events: Community Event for the St. Pat’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. The award is shared by alumni and constituent relations staff members Marianne Ward (director), Stacy Jones (manager), Elaine Russell (manager), Renee Stone (accountant), and Joni Matlock (secretary); Connie Eggert, vice chancellor for university advancement; and volunteers who helped with the event.
  • A silver award for Excellence in Photography: Sports Photography for photos accompanying the swimming article in the Fall 2008 issue of Missouri S&T Magazine. The award is shared by John Kean, sports information manager, and communications department photographer Brad Rupert.
  • A silver award for Excellence in Alumni Programming: Special Groups Programming for St. Pat’s Best Ever Around the Country. The award is shared by Russell and the alumni team.
  • A silver award for Excellence in Fundraising Materials: Excellence in Development Writing for the 1870 Club. The award is shared by Ward, Eggert, Miner Alumni Association President Perrin Roller, and the alumni team.
  • A bronze award for Excellence in Educational Fundraising: Program Mailing for Annual Fund Support for St. Pat’s 100th Anniversary Coffee Mug. The award is shared by Ward, Stone, Joann Stiritz, communications specialist (publications) of the communications department, and the alumni team.
  • A bronze award for Excellence in Alumni Programming: Campus/Constituent Groups Programming for Freshman Opening Week Activities. The award is shared by Jones, the new student programs office and the alumni team, including administrative assistant Kimberly Johnson.
  • A bronze award for Excellence in Alumni Programming: Special Groups Programming for St. Pat’s 100th Anniversary Celebration. The award is shared by Jones, the alumni team and volunteers.
  • A bronze award for Excellence in Institutional Relations: Overall Media Placement Program for Missouri S&T Media Relations. The award is shared by the public relations staff members in the communications department.
  • A bronze award for Excellence in Institutional Relations: Institutional Branding Campaign for “Hello” Campaign. The award is shared by staff members of the communications department.
  • A bronze award for Excellence in Graphic Design: Newsletter/Tabloid for Shillelagh Newsletter, Summer 2008. The piece was designed by Megan Kean-O’Brien, communications specialist (publications) in the communications department.
