For the past two years, Missouri S&T has engaged in a process of
self-study to prepare for re-accreditation. A draft of the university’s report,
developed for The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association
of Colleges and Schools, is available for review online at accreditation.mst.edu.
Comments on the report can be emailed through Sept. 5 to Dr. Harvest
Collier, vice provost of undergraduate studies, at hcollier@mst.edu. An open forum will be held
from noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 2 in the Havener Center to gather comments and
suggestions.
As part of the accreditation process, all university departments were asked
to provide evidence-based reporting in 2007. Collier coordinated this effort by
directing a cross-campus steering committee that created the draft self-study
report.
“The process of accreditation is intended to encourage Missouri S&T’s
ongoing efforts in assessment and improvement, and give the university an
opportunity to demonstrate its many strengths and points of excellence,” says
Chancellor John F. Carney, III.
Missouri S&T will undergo a comprehensive evaluation visit Feb. 23-25,
2009, by a team of reviewers and consultants representing the commission. The
university received re-accreditation for 10 years after its last review in
1998.
