The Jazz Band and Jazz Combo at Missouri University of Science and
Technology will perform in concert Sunday, May 4, to mark the end of the
current semester. The performance begins at 3 p.m. in Leach Theatre of
Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets, Rolla.
Admission is free for Missouri S&T students and $3 for the general
public. Tickets are available at the door and at the Leach Theatre Box
Office.
“This is a great opportunity for students and people in the community to
hear a variety of jazz music,” says Derek Limback, director of the jazz groups.
“The students have worked hard all semester, and it should be a fun
concert.”
The combo will start the concert with performances of “Dat Dere” and
“Bourbon Street Parade.” Their performance will also include two original
pieces by Limback, “A Moment’s Piece” and “Miner Joe’s Blues.”
The Missouri S&T Jazz Band will perform a variety of standard charts,
such as “Things Ain’t What They Used To Be” and “Bye, Bye Blackbird,” as well
as a Limback arrangement of “It’s Alright with Me.”
The objective of the jazz music course is to provide a performance lab
environment in the classroom, where the theoretical and technical aspects of
jazz music are explored.
