Two Missouri S&T grads among victims of Kirkwood, Mo., shooting

Two of the victims of the Feb. 7, 2008, shooting at a Kirkwood Mo., city
council meeting were graduates of Missouri University of Science and
Technology.

Kirkwood Mayor Mike Swoboda, a 1960 mechanical engineering graduate, was
reportedly shot in the head and as of this morning, was listed in critical
condition at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.

City of Kirkwood Public Works Director Kenneth Yost, a 1968 civil
engineering graduate, was killed in the attack. Yost also received a master of
science degree in engineering management from Missouri S&T, then UMR, in
1976.

The shootings occurred during a city council meeting in the St. Louis suburb
of Kirkwood. A gunman killed five people and wounded two others in the attack
before he was shot and killed by police officers.
