Gary Forsee, former chief executive of Sprint Nextel and a 1972 civil
engineering graduate of the University of Missouri-Rolla, was chosen today
(Thursday, Dec. 20) by the University of Missouri Board of Curators as the
system’s 22nd president.
Foresee succeeds Dr. Elson Floyd, who left the University of Missouri in
December 2006 to become the president of Washington State University. Dr.
Gordon H. Lamb, who has served as interim president since April 2007, will
continue to lead the four-campus system until Forsee takes his new post on
Monday, Feb. 18.
Forsee has remained active with UMR, which will become Missouri University
of Science and Technology effective Jan. 1, serving as a member of the Board of
Trustees since 2003 and chair of the Advancing Excellence campaign.
Forsee served as chair and chief executive officer of Sprint, the nation’s
third-largest wireless carrier, from 2003-2007.
