Due to a lack of air volume, UMR’s campus air whistle failed to produce enough sound to be heard across campus during its Friday, July 6, test. There was enough air pressure, but not enough air volume reaching the whistle to allow it to reach its full sound potential, physical facilities officials say.
The whistle has a 1” inlet and power plant staff fed it with air from a 1” pipe. Although the air pressure remained strong, the air flow was too restricted to reach the proper volume.
Physical facilities plans to run a larger air pipe to the whistle and schedule another test. The next test is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 10.
