Two academic departments at the University of Missouri-Rolla are merging to form one department that will focus on business and information science and technology.

The merge will take place on July 1.

Dr. Caroline Fisher, dean of UMR’s School of Management and Information Systems, will chair the department. “I’m excited about the potential of the new department, since having the two programs together strengthens the perception and the reality of our mission to combine business and information technology to create graduates who are well-positioned in the marketplace,” Fisher says.

Although the departments are merging, they will continue to offer bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in both business administration and information science and technology. Until a new name is determined later this summer or fall, the department will be called business administration.

The decision to merge was voted on by the faculty members in the business administration and information science and technology departments.

“The new department will fit perfectly within UMR’s mission to be one of the nation’s leading technological research universities,” says UMR Provost Warren K. Wray.
