UMR students win collegiate mathematics competition

Three mathematics students from the University of Missouri-Rolla recently won the Missouri Collegiate Mathematics Competition in Point Lookout, Mo. A team event, the Missouri Collegiate Mathematics Competition is open to students from any college or university in Missouri. This year, 33 teams and 91 students participated in the contest.

Coached by Dr. David Grow, associate professor of mathematics and statistics at UMR, the UMR team included Aaron Goldsmith, a sophomore in applied mathematics from Weatherford, Texas; Douglas Mallory, a sophomore in applied mathematics from Rolla, Mo., and Jon Reinagel, a senior in applied mathematics from Rolla, Mo. A team from Truman State University won second place, while two teams from Washington University in St. Louis tied for third place.
