UMR receives six awards from electrical engineering association

The St. Louis Section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) presented University of Missouri-Rolla students, alumni and faculty with six awards during a banquet held Dec. 3 in St. Louis.

The Outstanding Member award was presented to Dr. Steve Watkins, professor of electrical and computer engineering, for his contributions to the section.

Dr. Jagannathan Sarangapani, professor of electrical and computer engineering, received an Outstanding Student Branch Advisor award for his work with revitalizing the UMR student branch.

Dr. Ray A. Luechtefeld, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering, received an Outstanding Educator award for educational innovations he has brought to UMR curriculum.

UMR student Katherine M. Thompson, a senior in electrical engineering from St. Louis, received an Outstanding Student Member award for her dedication to the group.

UMR graduate James Leonard of St. Charles, Mo., a technical fellow at Boeing Co., received a Lifetime Award. Leonard received master’s degree in electrical engineering from UMR in 1976.

In addition, the electrical and computer engineering department at UMR received the Outstanding Student Branch award for quality programs and student activities.
