The University of Missouri-Rolla will unveil its first official UMR rings during Homecoming. The unveiling will occur during UMR’s Alumni Roundup Awards Banquet, to be held from 6:15-9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Havener Center on campus.

Graduates and current students with more than 60 credit hours may purchase rings. Costs range from $185 to $455, depending on size.

The unveiling is scheduled for 8 p.m. on the night of the banquet. The gold rings feature an emblem consisting of a hammer and pick ax to commemorate the university’s founding as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in 1870. The emblem also includes a modern UMR gear symbol and a chain to link the present with the past.

According to the UMR Alumni Office, students should wear the ring with the school name facing them. Upon the granting of degrees at commencement, graduates turn the ring around, with the name facing outward.

Tickets to the banquet are required. For more information, call (573) 341-4145.
