Rehearsals for the Rolla Town Band will begin on Thursday, June 2, and the group is seeking performers, says Dr. Don Miller, assistant professor of music and director of the group.

Rehearsals will be held from 7-8:15 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday in June and every Tuesday in July in Room 138 Castleman Hall, 10th and Main streets in Rolla. The band is holding more rehearsals this year in order to offer its audiences a broader range and a wider variety of music. The additional rehearsals will also let interested members that can not attend Tuesday rehearsals be members of the ensemble.

The band is open to musicians age 14 and older. All ability levels are welcome, especially those who haven t played in 20 years, Miller says. If you need an instrument, come to the first rehearsal and we’ll see what we can do.

The Rolla Town Band s first performance is set for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 2, at The Centre in Rolla, 1200 N. Holloway. The band will perform on the UMR campus beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, Friday, July 15, Thursday, July 21, and Tuesday, July 26.

The group is led by Miller and associate director Chris Brown, a graduate student in information science and technology from Niles, Mich.

Sponsors for the Rolla Town Band include the UMR arts, languages and philosophy department; the World s Finest Rolla German Band; ArtsRolla!; the city of Rolla parks and recreation department; Breakfast Kiwanis; Dr. Alan Singer of Chiropractic and Spinal Rehab; Mid Misouri Credit Union; and Forum Dental.
