Ten chemical engineers with ties to the University of Missouri-Rolla were inducted into the UMR Academy of Chemical Engineers during the academy’s induction ceremony April 21 at the Havener Center on campus. One member was inducted posthumously.
The academy honors chemical engineers for their contributions to the profession, leadership and involvement with UMR. The academy also serves as an advisory group to the UMR chemical engineering department.
New members are:
— David A. Barclay of Lake Charles, La., research associate at Sasol North America. Barclay received bachelor of science, master of science, and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from UMR in 1976, 1977, and 1980, respectively.
— Richard G. Chapman of Overland Park, Kan., vice president of consulting engineering service and strategic projects director for Black & Veatch. Chapman received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from UMR in 1970 and a master of science degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1980.
— Frank H. Conrad (posthumously) of Rolla, Mo., who died Jan. 5, 1983. Conrad earned bachelor of science and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from the University of Washington in 1923 and 1929, respectively.
— Kimberly K. Denney of Houston, president of Air Liquide America LP. Denney received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from UMR in 1982 and a master’s degree in business administration from Rice University in 2001.
— Donald J. Dowling of Memphis, Tenn., process and product manager for Buckeye Cotton Oil Co., a subsidiary of Proctor & Gamble. Dowling received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy (now UMR) in 1951.
— Ray K. Forrester of Springfield, Mo., president and managing principal at The Forrester Group. Forrester received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from UMR in 1972.
— Virendra K. Mathur of Durham, N.H., professor of chemical engineering at the University of New Hampshire. Mathur earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Banaras University in India in 1953. He received master of science and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from UMR in 1961 and 1970, respectively.
— S. Dale McHenry of Branchburg, N.J., vice president of global data networks for AT&T. McHenry received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from UMR in 1981 and a master’s degree in business administration from Harvard Business School in 1983.
— Joseph M. Schardl Jr. of Houston, manager of market development polypropylene at TOTAL Petrochemicals USA. Schardl earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1966. He received master of science and doctoral degrees from UMR in 1968 and 1974, respectively. All three degrees were in chemical engineering.
— Susan M. Simmons of St. Louis, senior resident engineer for the Anheuser-Busch St. Louis Brewery. Simmons received a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from UMR in 1984 and a master’s degree in business administration from Washington University in 1995.
