UMR chair elected fellow of American Society of Mechanical Engineers

Dr. William Schonberg, chair and professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at the University of Missouri-Rolla, has been elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for his "significant engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession."

Schonberg joined the UMR civil, architectural and environmental engineering department as chair and professor in 1999. Prior to joining the UMR faculty, he was a professor of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville. His research has been applied to the development of kinetic energy weapons, insensitive munitions, aging aircraft, and spacecraft orbital debris protection systems.

Schonberg received a bachelor of science from Princeton University in 1981 and master of science and Ph.D. degrees from Northwestern University in 1983 and 1986, respectively. All three degrees were in civil engineering.
