The African American Cultural Recognition Committee at the University of Missouri-Rolla and the UMR student chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers will host an oratorical contest for area high school students Saturday, Feb. 26.
The contest, using the theme "Embracing the Vision, Fulfilling the Dream: Evidence of Progress Toward Achieving the Dream," is held in conjunction with the Association of Black Students’ annual "Dinner to Jazz" banquet.
The contest will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, in Room 204 of McNutt Hall on the UMR campus. Winners will receive $100 for first place, $50 for second, and $25 for third.
The first-place winner will also present his or her oration at the "Dinner to Jazz" banquet that evening at 7 p.m. in the Havener Center on the UMR campus.
