UMR faculty members receive excellence awards

Eighteen University of Missouri-Rolla faculty members received Faculty Excellence Awards from UMR Chancellor Gary Thomas during an awards dinner Dec. 14.

The awards are given annually to recognize teaching, research and service excellence. Each award winner receives a $2,500 stipend funded by industry and alumni contributions.

Receiving the awards were:
– Dr. Martin Bohner, associate professor of mathematics and statistics
– Dr. Joel Burken, associate professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering
– Dr. James Drewniak, professor of electrical and computer engineering and director of the Materials Research Center
– Dr. Nuran Ercal, associate professor of chemistry
– Dr. William Fahrenholtz, assistant professor of materials science and engineering
– Dr. Gary Gadbury, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics
– Dr. Michael Hilgers, associate professor of computer science
– Dr. Greg Hilmas, associate professor of materials science and engineering
– Dr. Patrick Huber, assistant professor of history and political science
– Dr. Todd Hubing, professor of electrical and computer engineering
– Dr. Rajiv Mishra, associate professor of materials science and engineering
– Dr. Melanie Mormile, associate professor of biological sciences
– Dr. John Myers, assistant professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering
– Dr. Matt O’Keefe, associate professor of materials science and engineering
– Dr. Kent Peaslee, associate professor of materials science and engineering
– Dr. Michael Schulz, professor of physics
– Dr. Robert Schwartz, professor materials science and engineering
– Dr. Robert Stone, associate professor of basic engineering

This year three additional faculty members were honored for receiving the award for five or more years since its inception in 1986. They will receive an engraved crystal flame. Receiving honors were:
– Dr. Greg Hilmas, associate professor of materials science and engineering
– Dr. Michael Schulz, professor of physics
– Dr. Robert Stone, associate professor of basic engineering
