Dr. Barry Flachsbart, a former adjunct professor at the University of Missouri-Rolla’s Engineering Education Center (EEC) in St. Louis, has been named professor and chair of the information science and technology department in UMR’s School of Management and Information Systems. The appointment took effect Sept. 1.
"Dr. Flachsbart brings a wealth of industrial experience and research that will have a significant impact on the school’s development," says Dr. Arlan DeKock, dean of the UMR School of Management and Information Systems. "His depth of understanding of the information technology field will guarantee that our curriculum continues to be state-of-the-art."
Since 1966, Flachsbart has taught courses in computer science and information science and technology in an adjunct capacity both at the UMR EEC in St. Louis, where he established courses in systems software and computer graphics, and on the UMR campus.
Flachsbart received a doctorate in aeronautical and astronautical sciences and a master’s degree in aeronautical engineering from Stanford University in 1966 and 1961, respectively. He earned a bachelor of science degree in aeronautical engineering from St. Louis University in 1960.
During his time at UMR, Flachsbart received the Outstanding Teaching Award and authored numerous journal and professional trade articles and papers, and was invited to give presentations at several international conferences on CAD/CAM and computer graphics.
