New study: Ancient tropical forests thrived during global warming event

In the current issue of the journal Science, researchers are reporting that tropical rain forests thrived during a period of global warming almost 60 million years ago. Two of the paper’s authors have ties to Missouri University of Science and Technology.

Chinese university joins S&T in transfer program

Representatives from Missouri S&T and China University of Petroleum (CUP) met recently to sign a transfer agreement between the two universities. The agreement will allow CUP students to transfer to S&T after their first two years of study in geology and geophysics.

Earthquake recording stations to be located in Missouri

As part of a National Science Foundation initiative called EarthScope, 43 earthquake recording stations will be placed in Missouri and southern Iowa in 2010-2011. Dr. Stephen Gao, a seismologist in the geology and geophysics program at Missouri University of Science and Technology, is working with four students from Missouri universities to conduct field surveys and identify locations for the stations.
