Statement from Chancellor Schrader regarding Gov. Nixon’s STEM proposal

In response to Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon’s “State of the State” proposal to increase science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education funding, Missouri University of Science and Technology Chancellor Cheryl B. Schrader issued this statement:

“There is no sector of our economy poised for more growth than the STEM fields, and the key to meeting the increased demand for these skilled employees is education. Research from the Missouri Department of Economic Development shows that Missouri’s 2020 projected job growth for STEM occupations is higher than the average expected combined growth for all occupations in the state. With dozens of STEM degree options as well as STEM education options that begin at the elementary level, Missouri S&T is well positioned to meet these educational needs of our state.”

Chancellor Schrader named IEEE Fellow

Dr. Cheryl B. Schrader, chancellor of Missouri University of Science and Technology, has been named an IEEE Fellow in recognition of her leadership and contributions in engineering education. The honor is the highest grade of membership in the organization.

Curators approve nation’s first Ph.D. in explosives engineering

A pioneering program in explosives engineering at Missouri University of Science and Technology is poised to expand to the doctoral level. The University of Missouri System Board of Curators voted to approve the degree program at its Nov. 21 meeting. The program now must be approved by the Coordinating Board of Higher Education.
