Mark your calendars for Saturday, Sept. 29, when downtown Rolla comes alive for the third annual Celebration of Nations. This year’s highlights include performances by the Caribbean-style steel drum Banana Oil Pan Band and the Springfield Kiltie Band on bagpipes. But a historian at Missouri University of Science and Technology is bringing to light the role settlers’ animals played in the westward migration of the mid-1800s.
The first day of classes at Missouri University of Science and Technology began Monday, Aug. 20. Enrollment on the first day was 7,406, an increase of nearly 2 percent from fall 2011 first-day enrollment of 7,271.
