Dr. Mohamed ElGawady, a professor of civil engineering and Alard and Sheri Kaplan Faculty Scholar at Missouri S&T, has been elected a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI).

“I am deeply honored to be elected a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute,” ElGawady says. “This recognition reflects the collective achievements of my students, collaborators and mentors who share a commitment to advancing resilient and sustainable infrastructure. It strengthens my resolve to continue serving the profession and preparing the next generation of engineers to lead with innovation and purpose.”

ACI is an international organization that develops and shares knowledge on concrete materials, design and construction that has approximately 40,000 members across 120 countries. An expert in concrete structures and their performance under extreme conditions, ElGawady is recognized by a Stanford University analysis as being among the world’s top 2% most-cited civil engineering researchers both in recent years and throughout his career.

ElGawady joined the Missouri S&T faculty in 2012 and was promoted to professor in 2018. Last year, he served as interim chair of civil, architectural and environmental engineering at S&T. The year prior, he was on sabbatical from S&T and led the deputy nuclear portfolio in the Operational Energy-Innovation office for the U.S. Department of Defense.

He previously held academic positions in Egypt, Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia andJapan and the United States.
