The Switch On film screening at S&T will be Wednesday, April 8 in the Havener Center.
Missouri S&T will host a free screening of Switch On, a documentary by Switch Energy Alliance, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8. The screening will be held in St. Pat’s Ballroom C of the Havener Center.
“Billions of people lack access to reliable energy, and meeting that need requires practical solutions that work in a variety of settings and on different scales,” says Dr. Joseph Smith, president of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and a professor in S&T’s Linda and Bipin Doshi Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering. “This film does an excellent job of showing how energy systems actually work and the tradeoffs involved in making them more reliable, affordable and sustainable.”
Food and beverages will be provided during the event. Following the screening, there will be a question-and-answer session with Gary Hines, president of Switch Energy Alliance and a 1995 Missouri S&T civil engineering alumnus.
Smith, who was S&T’s inaugural Wayne and Gayle Laufer Endowed Energy Chair and previously served as director of the Energy Research and Development Center, says it was an easy decision to host the screening at the university.
“Missouri S&T is a natural fit to host a screening like this given its work in energy research and education,” he says. “Our faculty and students are working on a range of challenges, from how energy is produced and delivered to how it can be stored and used more efficiently, and that work aligns closely with the themes explored in the film.”
The event will be co-hosted by S&T’s AIChE student chapter, Academy of Chemical and Biochemical Engineers and Doshi Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering, as well as Switch Energy Alliance.
