A Missouri S&T student in ceramic engineering and chemistry has been selected as a delegate for the American Ceramic Society’s President’s Council of Student Advisors

“Getting to share my insights related to ceramic engineering and the perspective of undergraduates in the field is a true honor,” says Hossein Libre, a sophomore from Rolla, Missouri. “The majority of committee members are graduate students, so it is exciting to be one of the few undergraduates selected and to represent S&T.”

The President’s Council of Student Advisors is the student-led committee of the American Ceramic Society. The council represents student interests, develops programming at technical meetings, promotes outreach and helps connect students across industry and academia. Libre’s one-year term on the council will begin in October.

Along with his national appointment, Libre is involved with several Missouri S&T student groups and initiatives.

He serves on the Student Steering Committees for both the Kummer Vanguard Scholars and the Leadership and Innovation for Futures in Engineering programs; is historian of S&T’s chapter of Keramos, the professional ceramic engineering fraternity; and is a member of the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education Student Advisory Board.

Libre is also part of S&T’s College of Engineering and Computing Dean’s Undergraduate Research Scholars program, and he has supported multiple S&T faculty members’ research projects.

This summer, he conducted research at the University of California, Irvine through the National Science Foundation’s Research Experiences for Undergraduates program.
