Welcoming Dr. Joshua Coonrod

The following story was submitted for the CASE Dean’s April Newsletter.

Dr. Joshua Coonrod, assistant teaching professor of English and technical communication, was born in Rolla, Missouri. He holds bachelor’s degrees in English and journalism from the University of Missouri, a master’s degree in English with a focus on film from the University of Florida, and a Ph.D. in communication and culture from Indiana University. While at Indiana, he was awarded the Future Faculty Teaching Fellowship, which led to a teaching fellowship at Butler University.

Coonrod has taught at the University of Indianapolis, Bellarmine University, and Jefferson Community and Technical College in Louisville, Kentucky. His teaching portfolio includes courses on horror, media studies, communication theory, and film and television production. He currently teaches public speaking, English composition, and horror film and literature.

His research explores horror media and events, film festivals, and independent film production. He has presented his work at academic conferences such as the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, Console-ing Passions, and the Midwest and Southwest Popular/American Culture Association. His chapter on microbudget horror filmmaking and fan communities will appear in an upcoming edited collection on horror audiences.
