Abigail Rosendahl, a junior in metallurgical engineering at Missouri S&T, has been announced as a 2025 recipient of the Ellwood Metallurgy Scholarship — a $15,000 scholarship awarded to college juniors studying metallurgy that also comes with a paid summer internship.
“I feel ecstatic to receive this scholarship and have the incredible opportunity to take part in an internship this summer at an Ellwood foundry,” says Rosendahl, of Shawnee, Kansas. “Everything about metal manufacturing is fascinating, and I appreciate having this industry support that will allow me to learn even more.”
ELLWOOD Group Inc. is a family-owned specialty metal company with over 25 facilities in North America and thousands of employees. The company website notes the national scholarship is awarded annually to students who show “a true interest in the heavy metals manufacturing industry, and specifically in Ellwood.”
Last week, Rosendahl met with company officials and S&T representatives for a ceremonial signing event in commemoration of her being awarded the scholarship.
Rosendahl says she knew she wanted to be a metallurgical engineer since she visited S&T during her sophomore year in high school.
“Once I found out more about this major and how it would allow me to apply my passions for science and chemistry, I was hooked,” she says. “And the more I learn about the field, the more I am sure I made the right decision.”
Along with her studies at S&T, Rosendahl also keeps busy with extracurricular activities related to metals. She is a member of the Missouri S&T Blacksmithing Club, and the blade she helped produce as a member of the S&T Bladesmithing Team last year won a special commendation for its beauty at an international competition.
