Missouri S&T theater students are kicking off the holiday season and supporting a good cause with their production of “White Christmas” this December.
Performances will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7, with a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8. All performances will be held in Leach Theatre in Castleman Hall, located on the Missouri S&T campus at the corner of 10th and Main streets in Rolla.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for youth under age 18 and Missouri S&T students with a valid S&T ID. Twenty percent of ticket sales will be donated to CASA of South Central Missouri, which provides advocacy for abused and neglected children in the court system.
For those who attend the Dec. 5 show, the ticket price includes an opening night reception sponsored by longtime CASA supporters Sherry and Ryan Stites. The reception will open at 5:45 p.m., and will feature holiday-themed refreshments, carolers and photo opportunities. Trees to be auctioned at CASA’s “Festival of Trees” event on Dec. 7 will be on display outside Castleman Hall during the opening night reception.
Based on the 1954 movie with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, “White Christmas” follows Bob Wallace and Phil Davis, World War II veterans with a successful song-and-dance act. With romance in mind, they travel with a pair of beautiful singing sisters to their Christmas show at a struggling Vermont lodge owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. With a score featuring well-known standards including “Blue Skies,” “I Love a Piano,” “How Deep Is the Ocean?” and the classic title song, “White Christmas” the show is an uplifting, wholesome musical that will delight audiences of all ages.
