Krolikowski named Missouri S&T Christensen Fellow

Dr. Alanna Krolikowski has been named a Lawrence O. Christensen Fellow of history and political science at Missouri S&T.

The fellowship, named in honor of Dr. Lawrence Christensen, a member of the Missouri S&T faculty for over 30 years, provides funding for faculty to travel to find and study original source materials to support their research and for research assistants, memberships in professional organizations, summer salaries and publishing costs.

An associate professor of political science at S&T, Krolikowski specializes in policy for science, technology and innovation, with a focus on space activities, the Chinese and U.S. innovation systems, and China’s foreign relations. 

Her research has been published in the academic journals Space PolicyGlobal PolicyJournal of International Relations and Development, Chinese Journal of International PoliticsNew Space, and International Studies Review. She has twice testified before the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission for the U.S. Congressional record and is a frequent contributor to news coverage of international developments in outer space.

Prior to joining Missouri S&T, Krolikowski was a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University’s Fairbank Center for Chinese Studies and the University of Alberta’s China Institute. She also served as a visiting professor of the society and economy of China at the University of Göttingen.

Krolikowski earned a Ph.D. in political science and a master’s degree in international relations from the University of Toronto in 2013 and 2006, respectively. She earned a bachelor’s degree in international development studies and political science from McGill University in 2005.

Missouri S&T history alumnus Cordell Smith established the Lawrence O. Christensen Endowed Faculty Fellowship in 2021 to fund the research efforts of S&T history and political science faculty. Smith’s gift supports the research efforts and expenses of up to two full-time tenured or tenure-track history and political science faculty members. The appointment is renewable for up to three years.

Christensen served as a Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor of history and political science, consistently earning high teaching evaluations from students inspired by his passion for history and love of a vigorous discussion.
