Missouri University of Science and Technology welcomed 7,037 students on its first day of classes yesterday (Monday, Aug. 19). Last year’s first-day enrollment at the STEM-focused university was 7,022 students, meaning the overall enrollment from year-to-year remains steady.
S&T’s first-day enrollment includes 1,273 first-year students, which represents a 6% increase from last year’s 1,199 first-year students.
“Our campus and the Rolla community welcomed our new students with a tremendous outpouring of enthusiasm and energy for the best opening week and convocation ever,” says David Spivey, vice provost of enrollment management at S&T. “As we bring students together these first weeks, campus partners are poised and ready to help students adjust to new-found responsibilities, being away from home and loved ones, and support them in their transition to S&T. On behalf of our enrollment management team and leaders at the university, we thank the many partners who made this year possible welcoming new students to the Miner Family!”
The first-day 2024 enrollment includes 587 extended-learning students, 6,450 on-campus students, 276 transfer students and 502 new graduate students. Additionally, 117 students are working full-time through S&T’s Cooperative Education Program (co-op) and 183 students attend classes at Missouri State University’s campus in Springfield as part of the two universities’ Cooperative Engineering Program.
Each of Missouri S&T’s three colleges recorded more students than at this time last year. The College of Arts, Sciences, and Education increased from 697 to 720 students. The College of Engineering and Computing increased from 4,948 to 4,988 students. The Kummer College of Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Development increased from 641 to 685 students.
Kummer Student Programs provides students with scholarships and opportunities to enhance their experience beyond the classroom. In addition, eight Ph.D. students are new Kummer Innovation and Entrepreneurship Doctoral Fellows, bringing the total number of fellows to 47.
