Missouri S&T’s arts, languages and philosophy department will present its spring jazz ensemble concert and a student-led music ensemble showcase this April.

The first concert will feature the jazz ensemble, directed by Dr. Kyle Wernke. The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, April 5, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at the corner of 10th and Main streets on the Missouri S&T campus. The student-led jazz combo will perform pre-concert music starting at 6:30 p.m.

“S&T’s jazz ensemble will present a program with some swinging tunes,” says Wernke. “From Burt Bacharach to Journey, we have a little something for everyone.”

The student-led music ensemble showcase will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, also in Leach Theatre. The ensembles featured in the concert include the saxophone choir, jazz combo, movie music ensemble, video game music ensemble, woodwind choir, trumpet choir and percussion ensemble.

“The student-led showcase gives our students the opportunity to form, lead and rehearse their own ensembles,” says Wernke. “Some of the ensembles even arrange their own music. There’s no shortage of talent and passion at S&T, and the student showcase proves it.”

The student-led music ensemble showcase is free to attend, and no tickets are required.

Tickets for the jazz ensemble concert are $5 for the public and free to youth ages 18 and under and Missouri S&T students with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased from 6-7 p.m. the day of the concert at the Leach Theatre Box Office, located inside the main entrance to Castleman Hall, facing 10th Street. Tickets can also be purchased in advance online at leachtheatre.mst.edu or by calling 573-341-4219. Service fees may apply to tickets purchased online.
