Missouri S&T Holiday Concert in Leach Theatre on Dec. 8, 2019. Tom Wagner/Missouri S&T.
Missouri S&T’s arts, languages, and philosophy department will present a holiday concert this December featuring the university orchestra, jazz ensemble and choirs.
The performance will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at the corner of 10th and Main streets on the Missouri S&T campus. The jazz ensemble and orchestra will be directed by Dr. Kyle Wernke, assistant professor of music, and the choirs will be directed by Lorie Francis, teaching professor of music.
“This holiday season the S&T orchestra will be taking a musical world tour,” says Wernke. “First, we head to Russia with Alfred Reed’s masterful ‘Russian Christmas Music.’ After that we’ll zip on over to Hollywood for ‘Christmas at the Movies.’ Finally, the orchestra will visit the North Pole by way of Leroy Anderson’s ‘A Christmas Festival.’ The jazz ensemble will perform holiday favorites including ‘This Christmas’ arranged by S&T student Adam Burton.”
“The choirs will be doing some new arrangements of well-known Christmas carols along with some not-so-well-known carols,” says Francis. “Be sure to join us as students gather in their ugliest Christmas attire to perform songs of the season!”
Tickets are $5 for the public and free to youth ages 18 and under and Missouri S&T students with a valid ID. Tickets can be purchased 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from the Leach Theatre Box Office, located inside the main entrance to Castleman Hall, facing 10th Street. Tickets can also be purchased online at leachtheatre.mst.edu or by calling 573-341-4219. Service fees may apply to tickets purchased online.
