Students from Missouri S&T’s arts, languages, and philosophy department will premiere “Cascade’s Fire,” a new musical written by S&T faculty, this October.
The book and lyrics for the musical are written by Taylor Gruenloh, assistant professor of theatre, with music by Dr. Kyle Wernke, assistant professor of music.
Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 12-14 and Oct. 19-21, with a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15. All performances will be in the Black Box Theatre in Room 143 of Castleman Hall, located at the corner of 10th and Main Streets on the Missouri S&T campus.
“Cascade’s Fire” tells the story of a young woman who returns to her old university to investigate the mysterious death of her ex-girlfriend. Unsure of who to trust and who to help, she finds herself trying to uncover a conspiracy that could burn the whole town to the ground.
“It’s exciting to be able to create an entire piece for these students,” says Gruenloh, who is also directing the show. “These actors will be the first to take on these roles and sing these songs, they’ll lay the groundwork for future productions of this new musical. It’s another exciting opportunity the theater at S&T is offering these students.”
Tickets are $15 for the public and $10 for Missouri S&T students with a valid S&T ID. The show contains mature content and adult language and is recommended for audiences ages 17 and over.
Tickets can be purchased 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday from the Leach Theatre Box Office, located inside the main entrance to Castleman Hall, facing 10th Street.
