Celebration of Nations is back for its 13th year celebrating the vibrant cultural diversity at Missouri S&T and in the city of Rolla.
The celebration starts with the Parade of Nations at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. This year the parade will start at the Chancellor’s Residence on 11th Street, turning left onto Rolla Street/W. 12th Street, and right onto Pine Street. It will continue south along Pine Street to 8th Street, before turning left and heading up Oak Street, finishing past the Downtown Bandshell. A map of the route is available at nations.mst.edu/getinvolved/parade.
The parade will feature Missouri S&T’s international students and community members carrying flags representing their home countries, marching bands, local dignitaries, and the ever-popular camels.
Following the parade will be a festival at the downtown bandshell and festival lots featuring international foods, craft vendors, cultural displays and an expanded family area and Kids Korner with free hands-on activities for children of all ages. There will be an obstacle course, bounce house, rock climbing wall and more.
At 2:30 p.m. international students will model traditional dress and fashion from their home countries in the inaugural Celebrate Fashion show at the bandshell. The Celebrate Talent competition will follow at 3 p.m.
There will be live entertainment at two additional stages located near the food trucks and the Kids Korner. Featured performers include the SLU Raas Bollywood dancers, the St. Louis Chinese Traditional Music Ensemble, the New Dance Academy’s traditional Chinese dance ensemble, the World’s Finest Rolla German Band and the Shamrock Irish Dancers.
