Statement from Chancellor Dehghani regarding reversal of ICE rule

Chancellor Mo Dehghani issued the following statement to Missouri S&T students, faculty and staff today.
Dear Students, Distinguished Colleagues and Friends,
This afternoon, the federal government rescinded a recent decision to prohibit international students from returning to or remaining in the U.S. this fall if the universities they attend adopt online-only instruction models. The updated guidelines will return to those issued in March, which stated that international students can choose to enroll in online-only instruction for the duration of the global emergency while remaining in the U.S.
I am very happy with this reversal and join University of Missouri System President Mun Choi in reaffirming the value our international students bring not only to our campus, but to our community and our nation as well. (See President Choi’s statement here.)
The United States has long been a beacon of hope to the world, and a welcoming place for people of all nations, cultures and backgrounds. Please know that we are committed to supporting our international students, and we look forward to seeing you at Missouri S&T this fall.

Welcome news. MO S&T especially can fulfill their dreams with the superb mix of on-line and in-person education we are already known for. And our great student body will add to that dream by installing the great values and tolerance we always have, making a future home here possible for many that can benefit the United States and Missouri in particular.
Naturally, adaptation is necessary as we must worry also about student accommodations and nutrition vital for our very demanding coursework.

Yay! I am a community member who loves having the international students in our community. I’ve missed seeing them around, listening to them talk, feeling like I’m in a more cosmopolitan town, interacting with them at events.
