Two local soloists will join Missouri S&T’s Chamber and Symphony Orchestras at their annual Spring Orchestra Concert this month.
The concert will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 14, in Leach Theatre of Castleman Hall, located at the corner of 10th and Main streets in Rolla.
Dr. Kyle Wernke, Missouri S&T lecturer in music, directs the Chamber and Symphony Orchestras.
“The S&T orchestras are thrilled to collaborate with two local soloists on our spring concert,” says Wernke. “The concert will feature dynamic music written from 1801 all the way to 2019.”
The Chamber Orchestra will begin the program with Wernke’s “Poem for Flute and String Orchestra,” featuring Rolla High School senior Kristina Happel on flute, followed by Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Symphony No. 1.” The Symphony Orchestra will follow with a performance of Aaron Copland’s “Four Dance Episodes” from his ballet, “Rodeo.” Local pianist William Owen will join the orchestra to conclude the concert with George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue.”
Tickets are $5 for the public and free to youth, ages 18 and under, and Missouri S&T students with a valid ID.
